Hinckley Township is in the Northeast corner of Medina County and is approximately 25 miles south of Cleveland. Hinckley covers 25 square miles and is the home to over 8,500 residents. Hinckley Township is a rural area with a blend of residential, agricultural, and commercial businesses. Hinckley Township has 3200 acres of the Cleveland Metroparks, of which Hinckley Lake makes up 87 acres. Hinckley fire department covers areas in the Metro Parks which include Hinckley Lake, boating, swimming, Ledges, bridle trails, hiking trails and a sled riding hill. This poses serious challenges to our Fire and Emergency Service providers as it takes a great deal of training in various types of specialized areas to be readily available for all emergencies that we might encounter.
The Hinckley Fire Department has over thirty (30) members including three (3) full-time and the rest of our staff is part-time. This includes the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Inspector/Educator and three Lieutenants. Most of our part-time staff are full-time firefighters with other local departments. We strive to maintain three (3) firefighters/paramedics or EMTs around the clock with additional manpower responding from home as needed. We have a call-back system in place when the OIC (Officer In Charge) deems it necessary.
